[EN]: There has been a constant battle between physical books and E-books. Which one wins? I wonder… Which one? I’ve had the experience to read both on an E-reader and real books so we should have this discussion about which one is better, from my point of view, of course.

¤Price¤ 

Now, talking about money, physical books are often more expensive than the E-books, but there’s good reason for that. I am not going to get into that now, but therfore I have to say that E-book probably wins this round. However, there are some exceptions. Real books you can borrow from the library or buy them with 2-3$ from second-hand book stores or brand new on ridiculosly sales. Right now, I have on my reader about 50 books that were completely free, but I wouldn’t spend more than 7$ on some digital pages of a book. Maybe that’s just me, I don’t know. Now, I do not buy my books by their pricetag, so I won’t include this in the rounds.

Round 1: Multitasking

I mean when you can both read and eat, drink, whatever you wanna do. With a physical book it is actually quite tricky, especially when you are eating. Mainly because you are afraid not to get food on the pages. And it is very hard to flip the page with only one hand. On the other hand, eating while reading on E-reader is quite easy because flipping the page is only one button away.

Kindle wins 0-1

With drinking it may not be so easy when it comes to Kindles because you don’t want to ruin your smartdevice by dropping water on it. Meanwhile a physical book will just get dry and all ready to be read.

So, I’m going with the real book for this one. 1-1

Round 2: Convenience

I wonder how easy it is to read and carry around any of these two?

If I am trying to carry a 600 pages physical book, it may damage my back. On the other hand, when carrying a Kindle, I probably carry about 430 books. Trying to carry 430 physical books looks just impossible to me.

The E-book wins. 2-1

Round 3: Accesiblity

First of all, we have the E-book. All it takes it’s putting your finger on a button and you’re ready to go. With a physical book, if I want a particular book and I do not own it, I would have to go the book store or oder it online. Now, depending on where I order it from, it may even cost me the shipping and it might get to my house in 3-5 days or even more.

The E-book wins again. 3-1

Round 4: The shopping experience

I am talking about the times when I go to the bookstores and I do not have a particulary book in mind so I just go and read some pages, the back cover, smell it, feel it, you know what I mean. On the other hand, this is not possible with a Kinde.

Real books win this one. 3-2

Round 5:Taking notes

With E-readers it is alot easier to just put notes here and there, highlight and whatever you wanna do. Just as easy is with real book too. Even though you kind of distroy the book a little bit, I feel like you are just adding your personal touch to it. And even more you can put those falg sticky notes on the side so you can easly find you quotes later.

Real books win again. 3-3

Round 6: Physicality of the book

What really and seriously influences me in choosing between an E-book and a real book is that feel of it, touching a book, smelling a book, feeling the pages, how my thumb nail goes on the right page until I flip it. That’s what I am talking about! The capacity of feeling a book on a Kindle is probably none.

Real books win 3-4

Even if the Kindle would have won, I’d still enjoy reading a physical book even more. Because of the feel of it and the joy that brings me seeing my bookshelfs full of great books that I managed to buy myself, It’s just not the same way with a Kindle. I feel like an E-reader doesn’t give you the full experience of reading the actual book.

[RO]: A fost o bătălie constantă între cărţile fizice si E-book-urile. Care dintre ele câştigă? Mă întreb… care? Am avut experienţa cititului atât cărţi fizice cât şi E-book-uri şi acum cred că a venit timpul să purtăm această discuţie, să vedem care dintre ele este mai bună, din punctul meu de vedere, bineînţeles.

¤Preţul¤

Acum vorbind despre bani, cărţile fizice sunt de obiecei mult mai scumpe decât E-book-urile, deşi este un motiv întemeiat pentru care sunt aşa, dar nu am să discut despre asta acum şi, din păcate, trebuie să spun că E-book-urile ar câştiga această rundă. Dar sunt şi câteva excepţii. Cărţile fizice le poţi împrumuta de la bibliotecă sau le poţi cumpăra cu 2-3 lei de la magazinele de cărţi second-hand sau, câteodată, chiar noi-nouţe atunci când sunt la reduceri ridicol de mari. Acum, am pe E-reader-ul meu vreo 50 de E-book-uri, dar nu aş cheltui mai mult de 7 lei pe nişte pagini digitale ale unei cărţi. Poate că asta sunt doar eu, nu ştiu. Eu nu îmi cumpăr cărţile bazăndu-mă pe etichetele lor, deci nu am de gând să includ asta în runde.

Runda 1: Multitasking

Mă refer la atunci când citeşti şi vrei să mai şi bei apă, să mănânci sau ce vrei tu să faci. Cu o carte fizică este destul de greu, mai ales când mănânci. În mare parte deoarece îţi este frică să nu pătezi cu mâncare toate paginile cărţii. Mai ales că este foarte greu să dai pagina cu o singură mână. Pe de altă parte, să mănânci atunci când citeşti pe E-reader este destul de uşor deaorece datul paginii este doar la un buton distanţă.

Kindle-ul căştigă 1-0

Cu băutul nu pare să fie atât de uşor deoarece nu vrei să îţi distrugi smartdevice-ul udând-ul. În timp ce o carte fizică se va usca şi va fi gata să fie citită din nou.

Aşa că merg pe cartea fizică de data aceasta 1-1

Mă întreb cât este de uşor să citeşti şi să iei cu tine oricare dintre cele două?

Dacă încerc să car cu mine o carte de 600 de pagini s-ar putea să-mi afecteze coloana. Pe de altă parte, atunci când iau după mine un Kindle probabil că iau vreo 430 de cărţi. Să iau cu mine 430 de cărţi fizice mi se pare imposibil.

Runda 3: Accesibilitate

În primul rând, avem Kindle-ul. Tot ce trebuie să faci este să-ţi pui degetul pe un buton şi totul este gata. Cu o carte fizică, dacă vreau o anumită carte şi nu o deţin, trebuie să mă duc la librărie să o cumpăr sau să o comand online. Şi depinzând de site-ul de pe care am cumpărat-o pot să plătesc transportul şi să vină cartea în 3-5 zile sau chiar mai mult.

E-book-ul câştigă din nou. 3-1

Runda 4: Experienţa la cumpărături

Vorbesc despre atunci când mă duc la librărie şi nu am o anumite carte în minte pe care vreau să o cumpăr deci mă duc şi răsfoiesc pagini, le simt, le miros, citesc coperta din spate, şti despre ce vorbesc. Pe de altă parte, aşa ceva nu este posibil cu un Kindle.

Cărţile fizice câştigă 3-2

Runda 5: Să iei notiţe

Să iei notiţe este foarte uşor cu un kinde, ai posibilitatea de a pune notiţe aici şi acolo, de a sublinia/evidenţia, orice vrei tu să faci. Dar cu carte fizică este la fel de uşor. Chiar dacă pare că distrugi cartea puţin , eu mă simt de parcă adaugi atingerea ta personală. Şi sunt acele post-it-uri în formă de steguleţe pe care le poţi pune pe marginea unei pagini pentru a găsi citatele mai târziu.

Cartea fizică este învingătoare 3-3

Runda 6: Fizicalitatea cărţii

Ceea ce mă influenţează cel mai mult şi cel mai serios în alegerile mele dintre E-book-uri şi cărţi fizice este acea fizicalitate a cărţii. Să simt cartea, să simt paginile când le dau, să simt mirosul cărţii, despre asta vorbesc! Capacitatea de a simţi o carte pe un Kindle probabil că nu există.

Cărţile fizice câştigă din nou 3-4

Chiar dacă ar fi câştigat Kindle-ul, tot aş prefera să citesc o carte fizică mai mult deoarece pot să o simt şi să văd o bliliotecă plină cu cărţi pe care le-am cumpărat din proprii mei bănuţi îmi aduce atât de multă bucurie! Nu este la fel cu un Kindle. Mă simt de parcă un E-book nu îţi oferă experienţa totală a lecturii cărţii actuale.
